A Public Key Infrastructure is a set of hardware, software, people, policies, and procedures needed to create, manage, distribute, use, store and revoke digital certificates to support the use of public key cryptography for all participants in the business community. Components include registration authorities and certificate authorities. The PKI is typically a hierarchical model that includes a root, registration authorities and certificate authorities.
